Hi

i knew there must be a Zetor Forum!

So my father has a 3545 tractor ,

Very beaten up but god it's so strong , never fails to starts

It's a 3cylinder 45hp 4WD 1970

The Front wheel drive doesn't work , and the hydraulic brakes don't too , is this a common fault? (the hydraulic back arm work well )

Many Thanks
Thomas

hi there your zetor 3545 is rated at 37 hp your maybe 45 hp due to someone has tweeked with it. I have a 3545 and it produces 37hp on the dyno test. matt

A dyno test does not record actual engine hp, only the pto hp;) (But at 37hp it sound ok) my zetor 3545 (yes, i have one as well;)) produces around 50hp because i have tweeked the fuel pump and injectors (Also the rpms are raised to increase p.t.o speed) I have tried to sell it twice. now i decided to keep it!

hi yes i did mean pto hp;) 50 hp sound a heck of a lot for that but what rpm is it going to ???

I think its touching the 3500rpm mark??? Anyways this (similar) engine is used in other zetors at 50 and 60hp? 35hp would be useless for me so I did some tweeking here and there;) I know at least 2 guy's that have crystal engines running at 6000rpm and 400hp+ (for tractor pulling) with no major problems.

This 3 cylinder 95mm bore engine was sold by Zetor up to 39 hp. The 4712 had a 100mm bore, ours did 53 PTO. The later ones all use the successor of this 4701 engine, with either 100 or 102 mm bore.

I always thought they were similar! So 5 or 7 mm differance? I guess that could be cut out of the bore to upgrade the pistons with new liners??? Anyways it has worked ok for me for 2 years now.

those poor crystals must me be screaming. i know some one who has a fordson major with a cargo 0813 engine revving at 11000rpm 350hp:mad: he has only had 1 problem is the clutches always shatter;)

It is beautifull noise..... wiiiiiiioooooooooossshhhhh.. and black smoke to the heavens! You should try it sometime!! ( highly recomended:) ) They have 2 or 3 turbos, nitreous oxide, massive fuel pump And some other interesting bits:D

hi yes i have had a go on this major this one has no turbosbut screams it nuts off how it can withstand it i dont know??? but the clutches have proved a problem for him. he has a clutch at the moment especially for tractor pulling and so far so good. i must say you get one heck of an adrenalin rush whilst pulling front wheels high just hoping it holds and goes straight;)

11.000 rpm is impossible for a standard 6.2 liter Dorset truck engine designed for 2200 rpm. :)

When you double the engine speed, mass inertia forces of accelerating and decelerating the pistons and rods, are multiplied by 4. So when multiplied by 5.... the forces are 25 times higher.

Even a normal automobile engine, designed for 7000 rpm, will break at 11.000 let alone a long stroke truck engine. With a turbo, this truck engine can deliver 350 hp at 3500 to 4000 rpm.

hi the engine has been modified internally ie pistons conrods and other parts have been changed for high performance parts. but i still dont know how she can stand the abuse ??? hope this explains a bit:-:D

Well it might be possible if this guy get screamingly expensive alloy forged crank and connecting rods made by the American guys that work on drag race engines.

Still, at 5000 rpm and a bit more turbo pressure, the engine would be happier than at 11.000 putting out the same hp and the forces on the engine drivework would be lower.

Not to mention the stupid forward speed;) It is probably going at 20mph in 1st gear! top gear maybey 100mph???

Normal tractorpullers pull at 6000 rpm in 3rd gear and have a max. wheelspin of 80 km/h in highest gear.

I'm interested to hear about a crystal engine that can rev at 6000.
I had an employee that overran a crystal on a steep hill and then operated the TA. I don't know what the revs were, but a piston broke up, shattered the liner, split the block right thru the centre from the waterpump to the back, belted a few bits of piston right through the head and the tractor finally came to a halt where the road levelled out half a mile later in its own pool of oil.
Its quite difficult to find used crystal engines in UK, so now we have a non balanced 1980 engine in a 1986 crystal.
Incidentally, I bought a new set of pistons and liners from a dealer, and the new pistons have 3 rings instead of 4 . tractor goes ok though.
Dave

You do need to have them balanced at a specialised balancing shop to run at that speed.

In a town not far away from me, is Ten Kate Honda racing, they are world reknown in the moto GP. they balance Honda 4 cylinder engines so that the connecting rods differ no more than 0,1% in weight. :)

A friend of mine had the same problem with a same titan, The oil jet failed, and melted the piston and liner. Anyways,There are many companys that sell "new" engine blocks for crystals ( Most are from poland) just search the net;) Maybey you could fit a new engine from a proxima or forterra???

Brand new Crystal engines are sold through Zetor PDC, built in the original ZTS plant.
