The Proxima Plus is discontinued (it was as expensive as a Proxima Power and everybody chose a Power for the few Euros extra)

The trend, due to the cost price difference in sub 75hp and 75hp plus emission requirements, is that everything under 75hp is light duty and above 75hp is medium duty because emissions cost money anyways: So you get cheap 75hp tractors and you get expensive 95hp tractors, the 85hp models become too expensive to sell anyway.

Together with the rumors of Ursus seeking cooperation with Zetor , this can only lead to Ursus building the Major for Zetor, with Ursus C335, 350 and 360 as Major CL 40, 50 and 60 and Zetor building anything 100hp and over, all with a Zetor 3 cylinder, with good potential in the US estate owner market.

What can be learned from Ursus hardship is that it isnt a good idea to spend money on building and legislating models that compete with each other in the same market. Ursus has C380-382-385 and they sell none 🤣

For some reason, the Major outsells the Ursus models tenfold in the Polish market, from what i hear, its because the Koja cab is built so much better fitted and finished than what Ursus uses.
And i must add that i was impressed with the cab of the Major too, simple but neatly finished and well built.

Yes, meanwhile ive heard that too... So there is no synergy in this cooperation, there is no Ursus model in a market segment that Zetor doesnt already cover....

 
I see on that brochure that there will only be one tractor available in the classic model and the rest in the power shuttle model and I see in Forterra range they are only making high horse power model available with power shuttle.
Forterra CL models go from the 100-140 while HSX now only do 120,130 and 140 and HD only are 130, 140 and 150. So if you want a 100hp with power shuttle it's a Proxima.
 
Yes. The price difference between Proxima HS and Forterra HS is so big that the Forterra 100 HS simply isnt competitive. Especially because the cab interior of a Proxima is nicer than that of a Forterra HS. The only plus that a Forterra has, is the new eco transmission.

Furthermore, its the trend in the worldwide market: more power to weight ratio, so there is no market for a slow 100hp Forterra that weighs 4800kg.

The 7745 is a very popular tractor for export, they go to Poland for 8 to 12.000 euro, while a 6245 will do 5 or 6000... Thats because, with radial tires, it pulls what a 8045 on diagonal tires will pull, but when doing light work it will use fuel like a 6245 because it weighs less than 3800kg

Same goes for Forterra vs Proxima, a Proxima 100 HS will use 3/4 the fuel that a Forterra HS 100 uses when doing work like hay tedding or raking. It makes more sense to buy a Forterra 120 so it can also do the heavier tasks, and it will have a higher resale value too.

And it makes sense to scrap a few versions. The difference between 100/110/120/130/140/150 is too small. Forterra 120, 135 and 150hp models would suffice.

And, in 1987 when Case introduced the Magnum (based on the IH 5x88 series tri-six transmission, with 3 ranges, 3 gears and hi/lo) Case decided to introduce it with only one transmission, the powershift, because they didnt have money to make the revamped tri-six basic transmission, and the CVT gearbox they had as prototype, production ready too.

When looking at Zetor , is there a market for the Forterra CL at all ? And if so, wouldnt it make sense to build just one transmission, and put a synchroshuttle instead of a powershuttle in front of the 5 speed transmission, in the Forterra CL ?
 
Having a HSX I'm obviously going to say they are the right transmission to have, but seeing how far ahead the competition is, to match them at the same price they now are, they would want to be all power shuttle.
 
That would mean, drop the Forterra CL altogether...

With the upcoming Stage 5 emissions there are 3 power brackets: 50 to 75hp, which is Major, which Zetor will serve with their own common rail 3 cylinder from 2019 onwards. Then there is 75-100hp and 100-175hp, these latter have exactly the same emission limits so could be homologated as one.

Just thinking out loud:

You see at Valtra that they serve the sub 175hp bracket with a 4.9 liter engine. In Zetors case that would mean the Forterra HS stays as is (just with Proxima spool levers) and the Forterra HD and Crystal HD get replaced by a new Crystal CL series with a 5.2 liter 5 cylinder engine of 140-160-175hp, with the existing 5 speed transmission, just with an 8 ton rear axle and the mechanical spool levers. Then a Crystal DS version with mechanical spools and a 7 speed planetary powershift and 4 ranges, then a HD with aforementioned powershift and rear axle, but with the electrohydraulics with preprogrammable functions.

Then the 6 cylinder gets saved for the plus 175hp emission bracket, the Super range, with a beefier version of the 7 powershift, 4 range transmission, an 11 ton rear axle with 10x335 bolts, with 3 meter wheelbase, starting at 180 and 200hp with a single turbo. 230 and 260hp will need twin turbos with a membrane operated diverter valve that puts the air in the big turbo as soon as the small one has created boost. (This works much more reliable, on Volvos 2.5 liter 205hp D5 engine, much more reliable than VGT in combination with dirty EGR)

Then for the 260-300-330-360hp Maxterra with they better make a deal with Versatile.

Just to be real, the Crystal has a wheelbase of the MF 7700 series, the rear axle of a 5700 series and the weight of a 6700 series. Its a bit of everything, specification wise.
 
If they don't want to drop the CL models well then to go into competition with the Turkish tractor market tractors. all the 120HP+ tractors be power shuttle and lesser HP be a choice of CL or HS, then the stock farmer have the choice.
 
90hp CL models will come back when Tier 5 takes effect. Right now, there is an emission bracket of 75-100hp but in Tier 5 it will have the same limits as the 100-175hp bracket. Right now, they dont want to spend money on Tier 4 Final models between 75 and 100hp for just two years: because of DPF they will be much more expensive and therefor less sold than a Major 80, so you cant break even on 75-100hp Tier 4 Final homologation costs of roughly 50.000 Euro
 
So if there's a Tier 5 from now on will there be a diesel alternative Zetor tractor ever in the future?
 
Alternative: Zetor engines with their inline fuel pump take biodiesel quite well.

Future energy sources is an entirely different topic, which in i have quite an interest. I disagree with the propaganda and say energy produced by thorium reactors, carried through hydrogen as a medium, is the only viable energy source capable to upscale to take the place of fossil fuels.

Zetor is not going to be the Tesla of tractors. The only market solely created by subsidies they operate in, is the Polish market, and even that may soon be over if the Visegrad countries keep defying Brussels migrant quota.

Once we run out of oil, governments will realise windmills and solar panels only satisfy our consience, but not our energy needs. Then, the thorium reactor will be the primary power source, even though it hasnt been developed since the 50s because thorium reactors, unlike the common uranium reactor, cannot produce weapon grade uranium, even though with thorium reactors the chance of a Chernobyl or Fukushima meltdown is non existent.
 
Zetor sales director admits that its a high horsepower tractor which Zetor is most dearly missing.

Getting cheap compact tractors from Korea is just fine, even "solid, stable, still John Deere" sells compact tractors from Asia...

The Crystal just needed that 7 or 8 speed semipowershift with 3 or 4 ranges, and a 9 ton rear axle, 650/75R38 rear and 600/60R30 tires, and power up to 240hp to make Zetor an attractive franchise for dealers.
