    ok i`ll try that .thanks; i can`t get the engage/shift shaft(tube) that the pto shaft goes trough to slide up on the gear on the front shaft?should i be able to?

    yes, it is the shaft that sticks out the back,6 spline,540 only pto hyd.pump is on the front .also has shuttle shift .the rear shaft feels like it will go all the way into the forward shaft.i think the front shaft needs to go towards the motor but it won`t do you know if this tractor has 2 or 3...

    this is a 540 pto only tractor.it has shuttle shift. i dropped the front cover on the bottom, it has 2 gears on the bottom shaft. the book says it`s a 1piece shaft.i cant see anything, but it has got to go forward about a inch. i`m at a loss

    i have a friend with a 4340 .he took the pto shaft out with out putting it in gear. now the shaft won`t go in far enough, lacks about the thickness of the bearing from going all the way back in. any help or ideas would be welcome.thanks alan
